There is good news for all News lovers. Google has decided that it is time it upgraded Google News. The new version will be available across all platforms namely iPad/iOS/Mobile. The update will have several new features and functionalities that are presently not there on Google News.
However there is a small ‘IF’ and we are still not sure if this new version will be applicable only to iPad and iOS devices or will be available for all mobile versions. There have been instances where this new test version was seen on several platforms.
The user interface of the newer version looks cleaner and the space looks better utilized. The fonts are more readable and viewers have the option of choosing their preferred layout. Like most popular news sites important topics like Politics, World, Business, Elections, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, Health, and Spotlight are seen on the top of the page. This is an improvement over the way it was presented on the earlier site i.e. on the left hand side of the page. Also another change that we spotted is that the color of the “Real time Coverage” has changed from blue to grey.
On clicking the “Real time coverage” button you get to read articles and coverage as it happens. Google+ sharing button is present in the new version as it was present in the earlier version. However, there is a three button slider on the top left hand side that serves the same function as page indicator dots on iOS devices. The new version also does not have the “Timeline of articles” feature.
The test is being conducted on a very sporadic basis as this new version does not always show up whenever you visit Google News. When questioned about this Google answered that they are experimenting and will announce the changes when they deem it fit.
