Google Maps will now feature local ads that will be visible for users that engage in a Maps search. This feature will allow local businesses to place their ads on the Google Maps app for Android and iPhones.

Google will show these relevant ads at the bottom of the Maps screen. The ads will show a title and the text of the ad along with a link that shows directions to the advertiser. Advertisers will be charged in various ways based on the type of clicks made by a visitor. Depending on the way the ad is viewed by a user, and advertiser may not need to pay for any free clicks or may get charged with standard CPC rates of Google.

Upon clicking on the ad, a user will be able to view the address and phone number of the business along with photos and reviews of that business, among other details. When a user saves those business details for use at a later date or begins navigation or shares the business details with others, then the advertiser will not need to pay anything since those are classified as free clicks.

If, however, a user clicks on the ad headline, clicks to make a call, or clicks on the “Get Location Details” option, then the business will be charged with standard CPC rates. On the other hand, Google will only charge 2 paid clicks-per-ad-impression at the most to advertisers since a user may end up clicking on different paid sections of the ad.

Advertisers will also get analytical data for all free and paid clicks that will enable them to view the way users interact with their ads. This feature is provided through a new report. If you want to advertise on the Google Maps app, you will firstly have to add the location extensions feature on your search campaigns. You will also need to create ads using AdWords Express.
