A study conducted by Conductor using 50 trending as well as regular keywords revealed that the Google Knowledge Graph delivered outdated results with half the results showing a 2 to 5 day lag. Conductor compared results of Google Knowledge Graph with Wikipedia to reveal that Google needs to improve its algorithm to deliver them on a real time level.
Conductor ensured that the 50 keywords also contained names of people as well as trending topics and found that in high activity queries there was a difference of 20 percent between Google and Wiki, with Google Knowledge Graphs delivering several mismatched results as compared to updated Wiki entries.
The percentage of difference came down to 4 percent with low activity queries, but this meant that 1 of 5 Google Knowledge Graph results were outdated. This study points out a glaring flaw in Google Knowledge Graph, especially when the company is the source of dependence of billions of users that expect real time and updated results.
This study by Conductor merely highlights the fact that users need to use discretion when observing Google Knowledge Graphs results. Google had launched its Knowledge Graph on May 16-2012 with an aim to display additional information about people, things, and places in the form of images and text next to traditional search engine results.
However, it seems that Google needs to improve data extraction from its Freebase database as well as Wikipedia and other sources of information to present results based on real-time, especially on trending topics in order to minimize errors.
