Google has presented a welcome addition to its Google Maps for Android users by allowing them to use them even when offline. If you are a regular Google Map user or tend to get lost in unfamiliar surroundings then you can simply download any area of the map from the 150 countries around the globe recorded by Google to ensure that you are not lost when offline.
If you plan to travel to a specific city or region available in Google Maps then you can just enable the “Make available offline” option and select the area that you would like to download on your Android mobile phone. You will be able to view the size of the chosen file so that you can ensure that your phone has the required space before downloading the file.
In case your mobile has a compass and if you have a GPS enabled Android device then you can easily know your location with the help of the Blue Dot in the map on your screen. This offline feature is extremely useful in case you are travelling to another country and do not want to spend huge amounts while roaming or in case you are traveling by subway in an unknown area.
In addition, Google has also improved their Compass Mode for Street View within their Google Maps, again for Android users. However, you will need Android 3.0 version or higher as well as the gyroscope sensor in addition to 1.8.1 version of Street View on Google Maps for this feature to function in a seamless manner.
