Google started covering schedules of different modes of transport such as trains, subways, trams, and buses from 2005 and incorporated them in Google Maps. Those schedules have now covered around 500 cities all over the globe and touched over a million transit stops.
You can now access schedules of different modes of transport in cities like Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, Delhi, Bangkok, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Athens, St. Petersburg, and many more even on your Android-enabled mobile phone. Google has also released an updated Google Maps for Android app (Ver.6.10) that has improved Transit Lines layers to help you hide other modes of transport when you select a specific mode such as bus, tram, etc.
Station details have also been improved in this app and a tap over the desired station will open it to display further information. Other features have also been incorporated into the app such as highlighting borders of specified regions that have been searched by postal code or city name. You can also save maps for offline use at a later date or location from a place that might not have internet connectivity.
Google has also updated its Location History Dashboard that allows you to browse on a daily basis all places that you have visited provided you have enabled the History feature. All these updated features with wider coverage now makes Google Maps a must-have tool on your laptop or mobile phone, especially when you are travelling to a new city or country covered by this wonderful tool.
Google Maps now makes it very easy to check up on schedules of over a million transit stops that include departure times, fare information, distance to other near-by stations, and lines that serve that station, all with a quick tap of your finger. You should, however, update your Google Maps for Android app from the Google Play Store to take full advantage of this updated app from Google.
